Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi said during his Sunday sermon in Bkerke that “it is necessary, no matter what the cost, to elect a president for the republic and protect the institutions instead of planning to overthrow this or that or manipulating those in charge of this or that institution.” He considered that “it is shameful to hear talk about overthrowing the army commander at the most critical stage in Lebanon’s history.”
Al-Rahi considered that "such talk undermines the determination of the army institution, which needs more support and is the source of citizens' confidence and stability." He stressed that "we express our sorrow for what is happening in the wounded Gaza Strip, a destructive and genocidal war in which hatred is directed with the power of bombs, as well as in the war between Russia and Ukraine, and it is time to give the Palestinians their rights." Al-Rahi pointed out that "all those we met in Rome expressed their fear of the war spreading to Lebanon."
