The Minister of Economy and Trade in the caretaker government, Amin Salam, confirmed that "the ministry held a conference to discuss the issue of aviation, especially reducing the number of Middle East flights by up to 80 percent, and this is a decision that has a major impact on the country, in these circumstances, and beyond the insurance companies amending their coverage."
Salam stressed that “the law allowed Middle East Airlines to contract with foreign companies, but the Insurance Companies Control Authority, which is responsible for protecting insured persons, has no knowledge of the contracts concluded between Middle East Airlines and insurance companies abroad,” explaining that “when insurance companies abroad took the decision to reduce the number of Middle East Airlines flights by up to 80 percent, the Ministry of Economy could have intervened, before reaching this stage, to achieve better conditions.”
