Lebanese authorities announced on Sunday the seizure of about 800 kilograms of drugs that were on their way to Kuwait, at a time when Lebanon is trying to combat drug smuggling, especially to Gulf countries.
The office of the caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Bassam Mawlawi, issued a statement carried by the official National News Agency in Lebanon, stating that “within the framework of the ongoing and intensive security cooperation between the Kuwaiti and Lebanese Ministries of Interior to pursue drug dealers and smugglers (...) the Anti-Narcotics Division of the Lebanese Customs was able to seize approximately 800 kilograms of drugs.”
The statement indicated that "a large quantity of drugs was found, professionally placed in wooden models hidden inside a bulletproof box," without specifying the type of drugs that were seized.
