Advisor to caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, former Minister Nicolas Nahhas, confirmed that "the war will be devastating to Lebanon if it breaks out because the Gaza issue will apparently drag on, and Lebanon is in a very bad economic situation and is unable to withstand and cannot tolerate any conflict on its land."
Nahhas pointed out that "the decision on peace and war has remained a fundamental point of contention among the internal components since 2006," stressing that "what is required at this stage is to protect Lebanon from slipping into war, and to adhere to Resolution 1701, which was confirmed by Mikati from the south."
Regarding what happened yesterday in the ministerial meeting, Nahhas explained, “We have only one month practically to resolve the issue of the vacancy in the army command, and Mikati spoke with the Minister of Defense about this matter some time ago, but political calculations are dominating the file and Minister Maurice Slim is dragging his feet, so Mikati sent him a letter of urging.”
