Urgent decision from Germany regarding 47 thousand migrants

More than 47,000 migrants who have been living in Germany for years without a residence permit have finally been granted temporary residency this year under a new programme, the German Interior Ministry said.

The ministry said that by the end of last October, 47,531 applications had been approved under the so-called Residence Opportunities Act.

According to the Ministry, no applications that were rejected or are being considered were recorded.

It is noteworthy that the Residence Opportunities Act entered into force on December 31, 2022. The law aims to offer an outlet for foreign nationals who have been living in the country for years without obtaining legal status.

Under the law, anyone who has lived in the country for at least five years until October 31, 2022, has not been convicted of a criminal offence and is committed to the free democratic basic order will be given an 18-month period to meet the long-term residency requirements.
